The Canadian Limousin Association (CLA) is a non-profit, member-owned organization. Our primary function is to maintain the pedigree herdbook of Limousin cattle in Canada. We are committed to the betterment of the Limousin breed by way of performance programs, research, education, advertising & promotion. Our goal is to add value to the commercial beef industry through the infusion of Limousin genetics into progressive crossbreeding programs.
Our primary functions are:
- Ensuring the integrity of the Limousin pedigree herd book in Canada
- Providing member services and education
- Promoting the breed nationally and internationally
- Conducting progressive research
- Providing science-based leadership
- Advancing the position of the breed in the beef industry
The Association is incorporated under a federal statue called the Animal Pedigree Act. This Act covers all rules and regulations that all breeders of registered Limousin must comply with. Access a copy of the CLA Constitution and Rules and Regulations by visiting our Association handbook.
The Limousin breed has a very important role in today’s beef industry. It is known throughout the world as The Carcass Breed. This has been proven over and over again as Limousin has proudly won the prestigious Carcass Championship at Agribition for 30 years! We continuously strive to support the identification of genetics for consistently lean, healthy, tender beef for consumers.
Our Story
