Important Notice for CLA Members
The Annual General Meeting and a Special General Meeting of the Members of the Canadian Limousin Association was held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Hilton Hotel in London, Ontario.

In working with the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to approve the November 27, 2003 amendments to the Rules and Regulations, which were approved by the Minister in May of 2006, it was recognized that the CLA’s Constitution needed to be updated to reflect changes in the industry and to make the document consistent with the Animal Pedigree Act. As such, the Board of Directors agreed to undertake a review of the CLA’s Application for Incorporation, Constitution and Rules and Regulations and bring forward revised By-laws for consideration by the Members.

A comprehensive review of the Constitution was presented to the membership at the meeting. Ms. Adrienne Waller, our legal counsel, walked the members through a three column table commenting on the proposed amendments to the by-laws as they appeared on each page of the three column document. During her presentation Adrienne Waller answered questions from the floor. During the by-law discussion the members commented on the proposed by-laws and suggested edits to a number of the provisions. Due to the limited amount of time available at the Annual General Meeting to review the proposed amendments in detail it was determined to table the discussion to allow members to submit written comments to the Association with respect to the proposed amended by-laws.

This three column document was sent to the active CLA membership in June with notice of the annual general meeting. It is also posted on our website at www.limousin.com

Any members wishing to review and comment on this document may do so in writing to the CLA office no later than December 31, 2007.

On-line Billing Details

Some of you may not be aware of a useful function that is on the home page of your Online website.

My Account, My Billing – details any transactions that you submit to our office or that we bill to your CLA account (e.g. Registration requests, DNA kits, WHE installments, etc). It is particularly useful for December-born calves that are born close to the next calf crop year. It enables you to alert us to the billing error prior to the invoices/credit cards being processed and released.

It also will alert you to dams that you forgot to enroll as it would bill the Non-WHE fee for those calf registrations ($63.70) – rather than the $0.00 fee.

If you have any questions, please call the office.

Information Packages Sent
A package was recently mailed to you from the CLA office which includes 2008 female enrolment forms for WHE participants, online enrolment instructions for online Limousin.com users, and application for registration forms for non-WHE members. Please remember the very important deadline of December 31, 2007 for WHE participants to submit their 2008 female enrolments. If you have any questions, or have not received your package, please contact the office immediately.

18th International Limousin Conference: Italy May 20-28, 2008
Information on the 18th International Limousin Conference is now available at http://www.anacli.it/

Embryo Animals
Please fill out an Embryo Data and Registration Form and forward to the CLA office. Include a Certificate of Embryo Recovery/Transplant Form (also called Flush Form) with your Registration Form. The form should have the correct Donor Dam information and Sire along with the correct date of transplant. It is always helpful to make clear which Recipient Dam tag corresponds with your Embryo animal. The CLA by-laws require that a Certificate of Embryo Recovery Form be on file for each embryo animal. Without this form, your animal will not be registered.

If possible, when submitting paperwork to the office, please include a daytime phone number where you can be reached should we have questions to complete your work. Please also ensure that your address, email and other contact numbers are current on your account.

If you have any questions, please call the office.

Research Opportunity
A research project is currently underway to measure the variability of meat from basic commodity production versus specific branded or niche programs. Members or customers who retain ownership and will have a consistent supply of cattle to be harvested over the course of the year are invited to contact Dr. Susan Markus 403 742-7570 e-mail susan.markus@gov.ab.ca

Cattle must be harvested over an entire year. Single season or group marketings are not sufficient for the program. The CLA will also work with these producers who have adequate pedigree information to incorporate the data in genetic evaluation if possible.
