T Bar
Invitational |
“The T Bar
Invitational” – a marketing seminar and
golf tournament designed to raise
awareness of young people in
agriculture, namely junior purebred
cattle breeders and their associations – will be held June
24th and 25th in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan. Participants will have the
opportunity to golf Dakota Dunes, rated
by Golf Digest as the number one new
golf course in Canada in 2005.
The event will feature a social and
Calcutta auction on the evening of June
24th, followed the next morning with a
breakfast marketing seminar, the “Texas
Scramble” golf tournament starting at
noon and a wind-up awards banquet at the
adjacent Dakota Dunes Casino that
evening.
All funds generated from this event will
be appropriated to the breeds which have
a recognized national junior program and
association. Percentage of funds
allocated will be based on membership
numbers, and in addition, a portion of
funds will be appropriated to the
Canadian 4-H Council.
Sponsorship and participation is key to
the success of this event, with the goal
being the generation of funds for
Canada’s Junior Livestock programs.
Sponsorship opportunities and
registration information can be obtained
from co-chairs Dale Kelly at the
Saskatchewan Research Council (306) 220-5759
and
Bryan Kostiuk of Today's Publishing
Limited (306)934-9696, or Ted Serhienko (306) 933-4200. |

DNA Technology |
|
DNA is a
rapidly evolving technology. CLA has
endorsed a policy to move towards newer
SNP technology for parentage
verification. To members, this will be a
“seamless” move and does not require
changes to what you are doing in regard
to types of material gathered and being
submitted for DNA testing. It will
provide more and better opportunities to
obtain significantly more useful data as
the technology develops. Cost to members
will not immediately increase and
should, in fact, decrease over time. CLA
encourages members to collect DNA
material on as large a Limousin
population as possible – proper
identification and storage of samples
will allow members to submit as required
and/or as economically feasible. |

DNA Certificates (Breeder Copies) |
Please don’t
be alarmed if you have not yet received
your DNA Certificates for submitted hair
samples for your animals. The lab
returns the results to our office
electronically daily wherein the results
are checked by staff. If there are
inconsistencies or problems with the
results, the breeders are informed
immediately. Thus, if you have not heard
from us, the DNA results are fine. No
news is good news!
After the lab electronically sends the
results, Certificates are then forwarded
to our office for us to distribute to
the breeders. These usually arrive in
large bundles every couple of weeks. The
certificates are then sorted and mailed
out to the breeders when time permits.
You can access the DNA results on our
website under “Animal Search”. |
