At the request of the CLA members at the 2010 Annual General Meeting, the CLA will be including the homozygous status for polled and/or black animals on the animal registration certificates and with the pedigree information available on the CLA Website.
Testing and Test Results
The registered owner of the animal is responsible for selecting the laboratory to conduct the DNA test and following the instructions received from the laboratory with respect to collecting the required samples and submitting same to the laboratory for testing.
The CLA has not designated any particular laboratory for testing for homozygous polled and black animals and the selection of the laboratory is entirely at the discretion of the owner of the animal. On request the owner of the animal must provide the a prospective purchaser or a purchaser or subsequent owner of the animal or any progeny of that animal with the name of the laboratory and a copy of the test results. The purchaser of any animal shown on the CLA registry to be homozygous polled or black is responsible for obtaining a copy of the test results from the seller, including the laboratory’s disclaimer, and understanding the accuracy and reliability of the testing prior to purchasing the animal.
The homozygous polled or black information included on the animal Registration Certificate and on the CLA Website is subject to the CLA Disclaimer of Liability set out below.
Requirements for publication of information
The homozygous polled and black status can be provided from individual animal testing, from the animal’s parents by testing or through recognition of the equivalent NALF information.
To have the homozygous polled and black status included on the animal’s CLA Registration Certificate and on the CLA website, the CLA must have the following on file:
For a tested animal
· DNA test results from a recognized laboratory for that animal; and
· Signed Homozygous Service Request Form.
For progeny of tested animals
· DNA test results for both of the parents from a recognized laboratory;
· Parent Verification of the progeny;
· Signed Homozygous Service Request Form.
For NALF Registered Animals
· Confirmation from the NALF registration certificate or NALF website
· Signed Homozygous Service Request Form.
Fee
The fee for adding homozygous polled or black status to the animal’s registration information is $5.00 per animal to be charged to the registered owner’s CLA account.
Homozygous Service Request Form
The Homozygous Service Request Form provides the CLA with the following:
· Full name, contact information and membership number of the registered owner; and
· Name, tattoo identification and CLA Registration number of the animal;
· Confirmation of whether a replacement Registration Certificate is required; and
· Owner Acknowledgement.
If a replacement Registration Certificate is requested, the current Registration Certificate for the animal must be returned to the CLA along with the Service Request Form and the other information required as noted above.

The homozygous polled and/or black status shown on the CLA Registration Certificate and on the CLA Website was added to the registry at the request of the registered owner of the animal and is based on the information supplied to the CLA by the registered owner. This status is included for information purposes only and is subject to the disclaimer of liability included on the test results from the laboratory and the following CLA Disclaimer of Liability.
The CLA does not represent or warrant that the animal shown to be tested is, in fact, homozygous polled or black. The homozygous polled or black test results published on the CLA Registration Certificate or the CLA Website are provided without any express or implied warranty of any kind, including without limitation, all warranties of merchantability, fitness or a particular purpose or any other potentially applicable warranty. The CLA does not warrant that the DNA testing done was without defect or error or that the DNA testing will be without error. The CLA disclaims all liability for the accuracy, completeness, reliability or usefulness of the information provided.
The CLA, its directors, officers and employees shall not be liable to any owner of the animal or any owner of any progeny of the animal shown to be homozygous polled or black on the records of the CLA for any direct, indirect, incidental, special consequential or exemplary damages, which may be incurred howsoever caused, including but not limited to, any loss of profit (whether incurred directly or indirectly), any loss of goodwill or business reputation.
